This is an original hand written letter to a "JOSHUA SHAYNE," dated September 20th 1766. Admiral AUGUSTUS KEPPEL was effectively Commander in Chief of the British ROYAL NAVY in American waters in the 1750's. Upon retirement he became 1st VISCOUNT KEPPEL.
